The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) has designated June 27 through July 5, 2026, as the annual OSSAA Dead Period.
This mandatory nine-day break is designed to provide student-athletes, coaches, and families with time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the summer holiday without school athletic obligations.
During the OSSAA Dead Period, several restrictions are in place for all member schools:
Dead Period Guidelines
Secondary students (middle school and high school) may not use school athletic facilities for OSSAA-governed activities.
School weight rooms, gyms, fields, courts, and other athletic facilities will be closed for student-athlete use.
Coaches, sponsors, and school personnel may not have contact with student-athletes for coaching, instruction, practice, or team activities.
Team camps, workouts, practices, and other organized athletic activities are not permitted during the dead period.
These regulations apply to all OSSAA member schools and are intended to ensure student-athletes have an opportunity to spend time with family and take a break from the demands of athletics.
We encourage all of our student-athletes and families to enjoy the holiday week safely and make the most of this time together. Athletic activities and summer programs will resume following the conclusion of the OSSAA Dead Period on July 5.
Have a safe and enjoyable Independence Day holiday, and we look forward to seeing everyone back soon!
