care week

Calumet students are coming together to make a difference in the lives of children around the world. During Care Week, September 29 – October 3, our school will be collecting donations and packing shoeboxes to support Operation Christmas Child. These shoeboxes, filled with thoughtful gifts, will be sent to children in need across the globe.

How to Participate

  • When: September 29 – October 3

  • Where: Bring donations to your teacher or sponsor

  • What: Small toys, school supplies, and personal care items (such as toothbrushes)

The class from both elementary and high school with the most donations will win a fun reward: an ice cream sundae party!

What to Give

Students and families are encouraged to bring items that will bless a child and fit inside a shoebox. Here are some ideas:

  • A “WOW” item: Small backpack, doll, soccer ball with pump, stuffed animal, large toy

  • Personal care items: Toothbrush, washcloth, hairbrush, nail clippers, water bottle, flashlight

  • School supplies: Pencils, erasers, crayons, markers, notebooks, scissors, glue stick, calculator, drawstring bag

  • Clothing & accessories: Flip-flops, sunglasses, jewelry, hats, hair accessories, gloves or scarves

  • Games & activities: Puzzles, coloring books, musical instruments, chalkboard and chalk, jump rope

  • Toys: Balls, LEGO® sets, yo-yos, plastic animals, finger puppets

What NOT to Include

  • Food, candy, or gum

  • Soap, toothpaste, liquids, or medication

  • Used or damaged items

  • War-related toys or camouflage

  • Seeds, matches, or sharp objects

For size reference, shoeboxes should be approximately 12 x 7 x 4.38 inches (cardboard) or 13 x 7.5 x 4.7 inches (plastic).

By filling a shoebox, you’re helping spread joy, hope, and love to children who need it most. Show the world Chieftains CARE!
