student devices

Dear Calumet Families,

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we want to help our students and parents get ahead of important changes that will impact daily life at school. The purpose of this announcement is to make sure you are aware of a new statewide policy so that you and your child can be fully prepared when school begins.

A new state law, Senate Bill 139, goes into effect starting with the 2025-2026 school year. This law impacts all public schools in Oklahoma, including Calumet Public Schools.

Under this law, students are not allowed to use personal electronic devices during the school day, from the first bell to the last bell. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, headphones, and similar devices. Students may not use, access, or display these items during class time, passing periods, or lunch.

Calumet Public Schools will implement a district-wide Wireless Telecommunications Device Policy in compliance with this law. The policy will be included in student handbooks and reviewed with students at the beginning of the year.

This policy is not about punishment. It is about removing distractions and creating the best possible learning environment for all students. We believe fewer distractions will support stronger academics, better student engagement, and healthier social interactions.

We understand staying connected with your child is important. In the event of an emergency, please contact the school office. Students will continue to have access to school phones and staff assistance when needed.

We appreciate your support as we work to follow this law and provide a focused, respectful environment for all students. If you have any questions, please contact your school principal.
